The Sepulveda Transit Corridor project would create a brand-new high-capacity rail line linking the San Fernando Valley with the Westside of LA. In doing so it would also be directly addressing the notorious bottleneck of the Sepulveda Pass and the I-405, the busiest highway in the United States! In this video, we're going to look at why the Sepulveda Pass is so critical to LA’s transportation network, but why widening the 405 failed to fix congestion. We'll also look at L.A.'s Metro's new mass transit proposals that hope to finally solve this issue (including a monorail, a heavy rail subway and a light railway) and how each solution would bring its own benefits, drawbacks and cost. With projected travel times as low as 18 minutes from Van Nuys to the Westside, trains running every 2–3 minutes, and potential future connections to LAX, this project could dramatically change how Angelenos move across the city. Is this the right solution for LA’s worst traffic bottleneck? Or could a different approach have delivered more connectivity for less cost?
