Why Bengaluru-Mysuru Corridor Failed: High Court Speaks Out | @newsfirstprime

The Karnataka High Court has strongly criticised the long-delayed Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor project, observing that it has failed to achieve its core objectives even after more than three decades. The court has now directed the State government to re-examine the project and consider coming up with a fresh plan. A division bench of Justice D K Singh and Justice Venkatesh Naik T made these observations while referring to a 2021 Supreme Court judgment that had upheld the project. However, the High Court noted that despite legal clearance, the project has not delivered on the ground. The court pointed out that Bengaluru’s population has grown to around 1.4 crore, but traffic congestion has only worsened. The project, which was meant to decongest the city and promote satellite townships between Bengaluru and Mysuru, has remained largely unimplemented. As per court observations, out of the planned 111-kilometre expressway, only one kilometre has been constructed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, or NICE. While 47 kilometres of peripheral roads have been built and toll is being collected, the main expressway and township development have not progressed.
