As I stated in the preceding 084/880 bench talk video, there is a litany of mistakes in this presentation. Let the clarifications begin! 1) ~ 2:00, the 088 came out a few years earlier than I remembered. It was sometime ~ 1997 but, I am not sure if it was released earlier in Europe and took a little longer to hit the Left Coast. Seemed like they were later than the '97 year here. 2) ~ 4:50 the 084 & 088 cannot have the same part number since the 084 has an auxiliary, thumb controlled, increase flow option oil pump. Yep, idiot. I was thinking of the used and bolt up the cases. I still have not tried it either... 3) ~ 7:55 I stated the hp for the 084 was 8.2. I found depends on where the information is accessed. I finally found a good shop manual for the 084. It shows 6.3Kw. That's 8.4 or 8.45 to two places rounded. The owners manual I tracked down showed 6.3Kw and 8.6hp. So someone did the math wrong there. 4) ~ 11:19 the short segment pulse line goes from the back of the cases to a nipple molded in the back of the carb box. The long segment pulse line in the carb box goes from the nipple in the pump cover on the carb to the nipple on the inside of the carb box, which is opposite the nipple on the back side in the 084. 5) ~ 13:15 no Cross AM cylinder try-out. The plating did not go all the way to the top of the bore after a careful inspection with some good light. Assembly scrapped…. 6) ~ 16:18 Oops. Transfers - Wide vs narrow. I guess it was the orientation of the cylinder. Wide would be perpendicular to the line of motion. Height is in line with the stroke.... I really do "get it". 7) ~ 20:55 talking about the little c-clamp doohickeys. Tension wedges and tension spring are the correct terms. 8) ~ 22:00 speculating on the bolt up aspect of the 084 tank to the 088 cases. Established in point #4 that's a no way Jos é. 9) ~ 23:00 I had a brain fart here. The early, red light flywheels were thicker, 1.5 vs 1.27, not necessarily "bigger" (larger in diameter, wider etc.). More mass than the 088 & 880 versions. Flywheels: Poly 088 comes in at 502 +/- grams Metal 880 505 +/- grams 066 metal 517 +/- grams 084 532 +/- grams Okay, thinking all my blunders were clarified & rectified.
