This video will focus on Peter Jackson's career from the mid-2000s to current times. Follow me Instagram: @dneyts Throughout the years Peter Jackson has definitely cited a few movies as big influences, and Lord of the Rings was one of them, but the biggest and most known one was Jackons’ passion for King Kong, often citing it as his favorite film and as the film that inspired him early in his life. Jackson recalls attempting to remake King Kong when he was nine. With so much passion for King Kong it’s without too much surprise that in 2005 Jackson was able to release his re-imagining of King Kong. He was reportedly paid a fee of US$20 million upfront, the highest salary ever paid to date to a film director in advance of production, against a 20 percent take of the box-office rentals. TWhile it performed lower than expected, King Kong made domestic and worldwide grosses that eventually added up to $562 million, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film in Universal Pictures history at the time and the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2005. In 2009 Peter Jackson directed “The Lovely Bones” which is a supernatural thriller drama film based on Alice Sebold’s 2002 novel of the same name. The Lovely Bones was released to mainly mixed reviews from critics; the story and its message were generally criticized, with praise mainly aimed at the visual effects, Peter Jackson's direction, and the performances of Ronan and Tucci. Jackson’s project following the Lovely Bones was none other than The Hobbit which is a film series consisting of three high fantasy adventure films. The three movies are The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey released in 2012, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug released in 2013, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies released in 2014.The films are based on the 1937 novel The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, with large portions of the trilogy inspired by the appendices to The Return of the King, which expand on the story told in The Hobbit, as well as new material and characters written especially for the films. Together they act as a prequel to Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The screenplay was written by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Jackson, and Guillermo del Toro, who was originally chosen to direct before his departure from the project. The films take place in the fictional world of Middle-earth sixty years before the beginning of The Lord of the Rings, and follow hobbit Bilbo Baggins, who is convinced by the wizard Gandalf the Grey to accompany thirteen dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield, on a quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. The films expand upon certain elements from the novel and other source material, such as Gandalf's investigation at Dol Guldur, and the pursuit of Azog and Bolg, who seek vengeance against Thorin and his kindred. The films feature an ensemble cast, with several actors reprising their roles from The Lord of the Rings. Returning for production, among others, were illustrators John Howe and Alan Lee, art director Dan Hennah, cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, and composer Howard Shore, while props were again crafted by Weta Workshop, with visual effects managed by Weta Digital. The Hobbit trilogy is one of the highest-grossing film series of all time with $2.938 billion in worldwide receipts. It was nominated for various awards and won several, although not as many as the original trilogy. On 16 October 2018 Jackson's documentary film about the soldiers of the First World War, They Shall Not Grow Old. The film was created using original footage from Imperial War Museums' extensive archive, much of it previously unseen, alongside BBC and IWM interviews with servicemen who fought in the conflict. The majority of the footage (save for the start and end sections) has been colourised, converted to 3D and transformed with modern production techniques to present detail never seen before. As of late Jackson is working on the post-production of a tv mini-series documentary called The Beatles: Get Back about the making of the beatles’ final album , Let It Be. In a process similar to his previous documentary project They Shall Not Grow Old, this new documentary is created around "55 hours of never-before-seen footage and 140 hours of audio made available to [Jackson's team]". Other future projects include a sequel to Steven Spielberg’s animated film based on the Belgian Comic Strip Tintin but no official word has been set on or if production is starting. It’s actually been many years that they said that they were going to release this film, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. #peterjackson #thehobbit #kingkong
