WOW!.. Egypt Falls has got to be one of the most magestic waterfalls that I have personally seen! This lovely falls is located in Scotsville, Cape Breton, which is just south of Margaree Harbour and a must see if you plan to explore around the Cabot Trail. The trailhead for Egypt Falls can be accessed from Route 395, turning up Egypt Road and travel 2.2 km until you reach and turn right onto Pipers Glen Road. From here the trailhead is only 1 km away where you will be greeted with a plywood sign which reads 'FALLS' to your right in red spray paint. From the trailhead it is about 650 m hike into the falls with a descent of 100 m, which is a rather steep slope. So remember that you will need to hike another 650 m while climbing 100 m uphill back to your car. In total the hike will clock in at about 1.3 km and should take approximately 15 minutes down and 25 minutes going back up making it a total of 40 minutes moving time. It is upto you how long you would like to spend and enjoy at the falls, but I would suggest that the hike will take a minimum of 1 hour to complete, but suggest taking longer to relax and truly enjoy yourself. This would be a great waterfall for families, friends, dates, or even solo to enjoy a swim, picnic, or just have a seat and enjoy the sounds of the waterfall and babbling brook which surrounds you. I would not necessarily recommend this hike to anyone with mobility issues or who may not be physically able due to the steep incline which continues on for what may seem like forever for some. If hiking with a child or pup, there are a few points to be cautious with rough terrain just above the falls. The rest should be manageable and fairly safe. You will likely encounter others on the trail due to the proximity of the Cabot Trail, the ease of access, length of the hike, and the fact that this waterfall is absolutely stunning and surprisingly much larger than I had expected in person! but if it is the weekend and the sun is shining or the leaves are falling, you can expect to run into much larger crowds looking to snag their next nifty profile picture for the socials, so plan accordingly and dont expect to be as lucky as I was in having the whole place to myself! This trail would serve as an exceptional excursion for anyone in the area or planning to drive the Cabot Trail. There are also many other amazing hikes and activities in the area and along the Cabot Trail to enjoy, so if you are craving more nature there are endless possibilities, but you could start with my personal favourites.... Gypsum Mine, Blueberry Mountain, Skyline Trail or Polletts Cove. I hope that this video serves as a trail guide for some and as motivation for all to get out and enjoy some waterfalls, mountains and hiking trails wherever you may be! Happy Hiking🥾 -Hiking Thru
