Subscribe here: https://7news.link/ThisIsWhy There is an election coming up in Australia and although it may seem like there are always elections happening, unlike your local or state elections, this one will determine who gets the top job of prime minister. However, it is not as simple as just voting for the prime minister, in fact very few get to do that. First you are voting for a local representative to represent your electorate through a seat in the House of Representatives, one of two houses of parliament that pass our laws. You are also voting for members of the senate. The senate is the second of our houses of parliament known as the upper house. It is also known as the house of review because that’ is where pieces of legislation are examined by committees before they become law. If you do not vote you must either have a valid and sufficient reason for not doing so, or you face a fine of $20 for first time offenders. You’ve been warned!
