Beyond 65 is about staying active, capable, and ready for what’s next through real-world training and Indiana trail exploration. On this channel, I share Indiana trail guides, state park hikes, cycling routes, and practical ways I train to stay strong after 65. I’m not a trainer or expert — just someone learning what works and documenting the process honestly. From parks like Shakamak, McCormick’s Creek, and Spring Mill to indoor training sessions that build trail readiness, this channel focuses on sustainable movement and earning new adventures later in life. Fitness doesn’t stop at 65 — it evolves. 📍 National Road Heritage Trail — Terre Haute, Indiana In this video, I hike a section of the National Road Heritage Trail, a paved rail-trail that follows a portion of Indiana’s historic National Road corridor. I covered 3 miles, it was easy, and the trail is perfect for walking, running, or biking on a flat, smooth surface. The National Road Heritage Trail is part of a larger vision to create a continuous multi-use trail across Indiana that parallels the first federally funded national highway — originally authorized in 1806 and known as the National Road (now U.S. 40). Much of the trail is built on old railroad corridors and connects parks, neighborhoods, schools, and downtown Terre Haute. The paved surface makes this trail especially accessible for people of all fitness levels, and the scenery offers a nice mix of gentle wooded areas and open spaces. This section I walked is just one piece of what will eventually become a cross-state trail spanning well over 150 miles. 🥾 Trail: National Road Heritage Trail (Terre Haute) 📏 Distance: 3.0 miles (out & back) 📍 Surface: Paved rail-trail 📊 Difficulty: Easy 00:00 Intro/Start Point/East Glenn IN 01:29 Twigg Rest Area 03:25 Artwork 04:42 Seelyville Water Tower 05:30 Road Crossing 06:20 Rose Hulman Soccer Field 06:30 Turn around point 06:53 End of Hike /Final Thoughts
