Spirit Of Tasmania II, departing East Devonport at 10PM for her overnight sailing to Geelong Vic, it seems like a late departure time for the Spirit but this is pretty normal time during peak season when they’re doing day and night sailings, Spirit I would’ve left Geelong at the same time, they usually pass each other in the middle of Bass Strait in the early hours of the morning on night sailings and sometime in the afternoon on day sailings. I think the old saying 2 ships passing each other in the night applies to the 2 Spirits. It is unknown what will become of these 2 ships when the new Spirits enter service near the end of the year. I apologise this is not my best camera work, watching the Spirit go out was a spur of the moment decision as I was already down near the water doing some train spotting near the fuel depot on Devonport Rd, I couldn’t get to an ideal vantage point before it departed, so I had to film it from the footpath next to the railway line and there was 2 fences between me and the water. I was trying to get a good angle with my selfie stick but failed miserably, and I had the sound of vehicles going past and the noise from the loudmouths coming out of the pub over the road to contend with too, next time I’ll be better prepared.
