After three years, they had saved enough to open one store. They called it Fashion 21 and targeted the Korean-American community. In the first year, that nine-hundred-square-foot store generated seven hundred thousand dollars in sales. The Changs opened a new store every six months. By 1989, they had eleven stores across California. By 2001, one hundred twenty-two stores in the United States. By 2005, four hundred stores and six hundred forty million dollars in sales. By 2006, they crossed one billion dollars in annual revenue.
