Hello Everyone, for this railway journey I have travelled along the Tyne Valley Line to visit a couple of small stations that are sandwiched between Haltwhistle and Hexham. Haydon Bridge and Bardon Mill Stations, both of which are in the beautiful county of Northumberland, provide access to the nearby UNESCO world heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall, along with Northumberland National Park. Both stations survived the Beeching cuts of the mid-1960’s, along with a number of others on the line, but were reduced to unstaffed halts in 1967. The original station houses still survive and are now in private ownership. The River South Tyne flows nearby and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. There has been a bridge crossing the river at Haydon since the 14th Century. Meanwhile, Errington Reay & Co Ltd at Bardon Mill are the only commercial pottery company in the UK currently licensed to produce salt glaze pottery. These stations may not be the most well known places on the UK railway map but I found them to be most charming and delightful places to spend some quality time. I hope you enjoy the video.
