Interest in low protein diets has been increasing lately. Other low protein approaches are: ketogenic diets, fat fasting, the rice diet, the potato diet, the Starch Solution, juice fasts and all types of fasting. We know that low protein diets exert their weight loss and health benefits because they increase FGF21. But we don’t know HOW low protein diets increase FGF21. If we understand the mechanism – we can get more refined and targeted in our low protein strategy. I argue here that low protein diets work and increase FGF21 because they starve out Desulfovibrio bacteria and other problem bacteria in the gut. (This is expanded upon in subsequent videos) Starving out Desulfovibrio bacteria increases GLP1 hormone secretion by the gut and this improves leptin sensitivity, which reverses obesity and associated poor health. It also reduces toxic bile in the gut, which reduces ‘leaky gut’ and systemic inflammation – thereby reversing inflammatory health problems throughout the body. Exciting stuff!
