The UK's Brexit Minister has said the approach of the UK to measure the consent of the Gibraltarians for a foreign entity policing their borders is to work with its elected Chief Minister going forward. In answers to questions from Lord Purvis at the Lords' Select Committee on European Affairs, Lord David Frost said negotiations with the EU on its relationship with Gibraltar were quite constructive, and that having Schengen borders policed by the EU agency Frontex was in the spirit of the New Year's Even agreement. Lord Frost also said Gibraltar and Northern Ireland were very different questions. He played down the risk of the current tensions over the Northern Ireland protocol leading to retaliation from the EU, saying the UK had to focus on its own ability to grow, and the intention was to have the best border in the world by 2025.
