Fried Portobello Mushrooms An easy recipe for fried portobello mushrooms, or any mushrooms. We like the portobellos because they are very meaty. You can use this same recipe for any type of fried mushroom. We used 4 med to large portobellos, cleaned and trimmed and sliced 1/4 inch thick. Here is our recipe: For the batter: Ingredients: 1 cup- all purpose flour 8 oz- beer, we prefer ale or stout. You can use soda water if you prefer 1 tsp- garlic powder 1 tsp- baking soda 1 tsp- paprika Salt and pepper Method: Add flour, garlic powder, baking soda, paprika, salt and pepper to a mixing bowl. combine the ingredients with a whisk or spoon. Add the beer and whisk until you get a smooth batter (similar to pancake batter). For the bread coating: Ingredients: 1 cup- croutons. We love to use our favorite croutons, they are already buttered and salted. you may just use breadcrumbs of you prefer. 3/4 cup- panko breadcrumbs 1/4 cup- grated parmesan cheese Method: Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl. For the frying: Dredge the mushrooms in the batter. Place the mushrooms in the bread coating and coat completely. Heat oil to 325 degrees. Fry until golden brown.
