Title: Does bilingual language control overlap with domain-general cognitive control? Abstract: One of the major discussions regarding how bilinguals process language revolves around whether language control, a process that makes sure that a bilingual uses the correct language even though both languages are typically activated, is domain general. The literature on this topic is surprisingly confusing, with some studies showing no overlap and others showing a distinct overlap. In this talk, I will give an overview of the literature regarding domain-general language control, with a focus on studies that contrasted two related paradigms: language switching, which allows for measures of language control, and task switching, which allows for measures of non-linguistic cognitive control.
