Imbibition is the adsorption of liquid molecules by solid material and it leads to development of imbibition pressure. Imbibition is a type of diffusion. This method was used by pre-historic men to split rocks by inserting logs of wood between the cracks just at start of rainy season. Imbibition is seen at our homes when wooden doors become swollen during rainy season. There are two per-requisites for imbibition to occur which are affinity between liquid molecules (imbibate) and solid material (imbibant) and presence of water potential gradient. Imbibition is important process for germination of seed and helps in breaking seed coat and emerging out seedlings from the soil. #imbibition #neet2021 #transport_in_plants #biology_class11 #plant_physiology
