I first came across Bolt & Forge in a thread over on TheGearPage, and the (new) company's line of pedals looked very impressive. So getting to check out the one that appealed to me the most is a real thrill. ...and it didn't disappoint. The Appaloosa is a low-medium gain overdrive pedal with a setup similar to that of a Master Volume amplifier...the Gain control is somewhat akin to a power amp (not huge amounts of gain on its own), but if you turn up the Boost (a little like a preamp) the signal is slammed harder into the clipping section; and you can balance the two controls out for different effects. Cool eh? The two band EQ is also deceivingly simple. The two controls are very powerful on their own, but you can also turn both up for a mid-scoop, and turn both down for a mid-push. So there's a huge amount of tonal options. What do you think? Gritty Tweed-like crunch? Or not for you? Comment below!
