Pinal County joins ICE under controversial 287(g) program | FOX 10 Phoenix

The Pinal County Attorney's Office announced a partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through the 287(g) program to target violent offenders, helping to detain and deport immigrants involved in serious crimes like child trafficking. The county will gain federal resources in return for assisting ICE. Critics, however, argue that immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility and worry the local partnership could lead to unwarranted arrests and increased county costs. "Say we see a very dangerous individual who has been committing child trafficking, and he also happens to be an illegal immigrant. We now ask ICE to bring some of their team, their SWAT team, to assist us with that operation," Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller said. FOX 10's Ashlie Rodriguez has the details.
