In this minute and a half video you will see me use a turkey baster to wash the growing point of my Drosera aliciae and D. venusta that had a Humic Acid Buildup from the peat I used. When this happens there is no danger to your plant and as you will see, it is a simple flushing of water a few times for a week or so that will eventually clean up the Humic Acid Buildup that is causing your plants growing point to be brown or even black. #HumicAcidBuildup #CarnivorousPlants #CarnivorousPlantCare The video will play normal speed the first 20 seconds and then will speed up showing the progress a mere 3-4 washes can do. Then in normal speed I display how gentle and easy you need to be when cleaning the growing point with a distilled water dampened Q-Tip. Afterwards you wash again and repeat on all the plants you have with the issue. You will see the buildup happening again quickly after if you have not flushed out the pot enough. Repeated washings will eventually get all the humic acid out of your pot and will stop affecting the plant. If you don't have a top soil like I do, you can flush more dramatically with one hand holding a gallon of distilled water and you can gently pour the water into the pot and really truly flush out everything. Just be sure to be standing outside over dirt or grass so you can let the water flow right through the pot and drip away so the collected humic acid doesn't sit at the bottom of the pot. You want it to wash through and drip out of the pot to the ground.
