Regarding my videos on youtube.com in the Appalachia playlist, this video would fall between the Highland Scenic Highway, West Virginia, and North Carolina Arboretum. Part of the joy of driving through this part of the country is exploring the back country roads through the mountains. The countryside here is stunning and it can be quite fun just to see where the roads take you. The first section here is Virginia but I cannot remember the exact road. Upon reaching Asheville, I had a day of rainy weather... but that made a visit to the Thomas Wolfe home all that much better. "Look Homeward, Angel" was a very mesmerizing novel for me and so many details come alive when one visits his home. This was the home that his mother ran as a boarding house. I think they have done a very complete job pointing out the parallels to his novel, and if you enjoyed the work, I think you would enjoy a visit to his home. Finally, when the rain had cleared, I made my way up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and hiked in the Graveyard Fields area which is not so far outside of Asheville. The crisp autumn air and blue skies were very refreshing. The songs here are by Patty Loveless and Yo-Yo Ma and his orchestra, both with an "Appalachian country" theme. Patty Loveless was born in Pikeville, KY, which I had visited earlier on this same trip.
