Residents of Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are counting heavy losses after a deadly terrorist attack that left scores dead and homes destroyed. The village head, Umar Salihu, has accused Nigerian security forces of arriving nearly ten hours after the attack began, despite repeated distress calls. According to him, the assault started around 5 p.m. and continued overnight, with troops only showing up around 3 a.m., long after the attackers had fled. He said there was no military engagement or air support during the hours of violence. Salihu disclosed that Woro became vulnerable after soldiers previously stationed in the area were withdrawn following an earlier attack. He identified the attackers as members of the Mamuda terrorist group and said the violence was triggered by the community’s refusal to accept their ideology. He also dismissed claims of religious conflict, noting that most of the victims were Muslims. At least 75 residents have been buried so far, with more bodies still being recovered. Nearly half of the village was reportedly razed, including the village head’s own home. While the Defence Headquarters insists troops were promptly deployed, the PDP has accused the Federal Government of ignoring security warnings.
