"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then death worketh in us, but life in you." 2 Corinthians 4:6-12 (KJV) The same God Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, when darkness held the earth captive and thus recovered it from darkness, that same God is now shinning in our hearts, to give (to bring into the open and make men to see and taste) the light (which is the vivid expression) of the personal knowledge of and personal encounter with the glory (the Person) of God in the face (of and in the Person) of Jesus Christ! Hallelujah! No doubt, this is a great and immeasurable treasure (in any mortal)! But why will God allow the same vessels in and through which the above is made manifest, to be troubled on every side and perplexed, persecuted and cast down, on a daily basis? Why will God keep such costly divine pearls of priceless value in earthen vessels of vessels of clay? Paul said this is done for three or four reasons: 1. That we may know that this treasure is ever-kept in earthen, weak, soluble and breakable vessels, first, for our carefulness, simplicity and humility and, two, to firmly establish the truth that the source of this great treasure is not located within the vessels. 2. That the excellency of power and the excelling power (of godliness, which is not available in many religious quarters and in religious efforts), is not of (does not belong to) us, but of God! 3. That we may always bear about in our body, the death of Jesus Christ, the only means by which Christ's life is made manifest through our body. 4. That, we, who live and are alive in Christ, may know that while we are alive, we are always delivered unto death for Christ's sake, making death to work in us to, the bringing forth of life, in others. Let's look at these issues together at RCCG, Grace Hub, Lagos, today. The service commences at 8:00 a.m. (WAT), while the message comes up later. See the flyer for other details.
