(THE MANNER OF STEWARDS WE OUGHT TO BE) “It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom an hundred and twenty princes, which should be over the whole kingdom; And over these three presidents; of whom Daniel was first: that the princes might give accounts unto them, and the king should have no damage. Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.” Daniel 6:1-3 (KJV) Great kings in those days have their domains spread beyond where their seats of government or power were located. The kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar went beyond Babylon. The domain of David was beyond Jerusalem, so also was Solomon’s. These kings annex any nation they conquered and put their men in charge. Sometimes, they will even install kings over such nations, who will bring tributes to them. Nebuchadnezzar did it for Israel. He took Zedekiah away and appointed another king as his vassal or protégé, in his stead. This person collects revenue on behalf of the king and remit same to the king. Anytime such land refused to send tribute to the king, it is taken to be a revolt or rebellion against the king, and it could lead to bloody war. In essence, kings appoint such men to protect their interests, so that the king will not suffer damage or loss. There are few critical areas of damage to a king: 1. Loss of Revenue 2. Insecurity 3. Loss of Ownership 4. Denial of Rights 5. Disobedience to the Extant Laws of the King 6. Rebellion/Insurrection Daniel and two other men were appointed by Darius to oversee all the princes set over the 120 princes who were over the provinces under the king, so that the princes might give accounts to them, so that the king will have no damage. Daniel was found to be first among these three because: 1. Excellent spirit was found in him 2. Loyal to the government 3. Faultless 4. Faithful 5. Flawless This is the kind of steward that we ought to be. This third part of the message comes up shortly. Shalom! In HIS grip, #SegunAriyo
