The setting for grinding the coffee beans for the first shot is 6. This was a very fine grind. 28 gram yield with 18 gram dose. It's almost a ristretto. The coffee, brewed for 44 seconds, tasted muddy and bitter. To fix this, I set the grinder to level 8. I distributed and tamp the ground coffees with the same care. There was terrible channeling when the brew started. I've never been able to make a good brew with a level 8 grind.
