In this part, we complete all of Layer-Cake Desert. I'm actually going to do Sparkling Waters next. These are the stages shown in this part: Layer-Cake Desert-1: Stone-Eye Zone: This stage is full of moai heads that you can use to cross quicksand. Star Coin #1: Run up the moai head and grab this Coin. Star Coin #2: As Flying Squirrel Mario, air jump to the tree and enter the Pipe. In here, hit the P-Switch and grab the Star Coin. Star Coin #3: Jump down to this one when the sand geyser is about to rise. It'll push you up upon grabbing it. Layer-Cake Desert-2: Perilous Pokey Cave: This stage is obviously full of Pokeys. Yoshi is here as well. Star Coin #1: Grab this Coin using the Question Block. Star Coin #2: Between two hanging Pokeys, jump up to reveal an Invisible Block. Jump on it, then jump to the right. Run across the ceiling and get the Coin. Star Coin #3: With Yoshi, Flutter Jump to reach a Pipe in the dark area. In the new room, use Yoshi to grab the high-up Coin. Layer-Cake Desert-3: Fire Snake Cavern. Fire Snakes return, but they're not as threatening. This stage introduces the Glowing Baby Yoshi, who can eat these baddies. Also, spinning will make the Yoshi illuminate the area. Star Coin #1: Early in the stage, tilt the platform to the left, then run up to the top structure, grabbing the Coin. Star Coin #2: Later in the stage, under the two large tilting platforms, is a Pipe. Destroy the Block to reach it, hit the P-Switch to the left, then grab the Coin to the right. Star Coin #3: Near the Fire Bros. at the end is a Pipe. Get up to it and enter it. In this room, just grab the Coin. Layer-Cake Desert-Tower: Stoneslide Tower: This stage has you spinning switches to move around stones, allowing you to progress. The boss here is another Boom Boom. Three stomps will still defeat it. Star Coin #1: As soon as you begin the stage, spin the switch for the first Coin to appear. Get on the stone, and jump up to it. Star Coin #2: Near the platform with a few Dry Bones is a giant stone to the left. Spin the switch to the right, then quickly run to the left and wall jump up to the next Coin. Star Coin #3: Near the sign with the arrow pointing up is a Pipe. Jump to the left to find it. In this room, you must spin a switch so you can move the platform. Make a Grrrol move to the wall on the right, hit it, then roll to the left, into the Blocks guarding the Coin. Carefully get it afterwards. Layer-Cake Desert-4: Spike's Spouting Sands: This stage introduces the use of the Mini Mushroom, along with some Spikes. Star Coin #1: Run to the two Spikes on the Question Blocks, kill one, then jump to the Coin. Star Coin #2: Kill the Spike on the sand geyser, then jump up to reveal a Beanstalk. Climb up it, then jump over to the Coin by using the Blocks. Star Coin #3: Found in a hidden Pipe is a Block containing a Mini Mushroom. Grab it, then run up the wall to the right. Keep on running, and grab the Star Coin. Secret Exit: Near the end of the stage is a Spike on a Flying Question Block. Walk through the wall to the left of it, then enter the Pipe. Continue here, and take the secret exit. Layer-Cake Desert-5: Dry Desert Mushrooms: This stage is easy with Flying Squirrel Mario. Luckily, there's a few Super Acorns here. Stone Spikes are everywhere here. Star Coin #1: Move the higher-up platform, then jump to the lower one and grab the Coin. Star Coin #2: Wait for the purple mushroom to stretch, then jump up and grab the Coin. Star Coin #3: Enter the Pipe by the pit, then pick up the POW Block. Wait for the mushrooms to stretch, then throw it. Grab the Star Coin when it lands. Layer-Cake Desert-6: Blooming Lakitus: Arrgh, this stage is annoying, simply due to the fact that Lakitus can create Piranha Plants now. Star Coin #1: Jump up and get this Coin by the two sets of Blocks. Star Coin #2: Fly up to, and enter the Pipe using a Lakitu's Cloud. In here, use the Jump Blocks to reach the Coin. Star Coin #3: This one is near the end. Grab the Coin while dodging Piranha Plants. Layer-Cake Desert-Castle: Morton's Compactor Castle: This stage is full of moving platforms. Morton is quite easy. Avoid the Pokey segments and stomp him three times. Star Coin #1: Wait for the platforms to move ahead, then run across to grab the Coin. Star Coin #2: Using the red Pipe, wall jump to the ceiling and enter the green Pipe. Wall jump up to the Coin. Star Coin #3: Jump to this one, and land on the moving platform. Layer-Cake Desert-Ice: Piranha Plants on Ice: This stage is way tougher than 9-7 of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's all about going fast for the Star Coins. Star Coin #1: Enter the green Pipe before the ice blocks it, then grab the Coin. Star Coin #2: Wall jump up the ice to reach a Pipe. Enter it, then use some ice to reach the Coin. Star Coin #3: Quickly run across the ice in the air to get the Coin.
