President Obama and his wife Michelle entertained the monarch and Duke of Edinburgh as a thank you in return for the lavish state banquet that the royals threw for them on Tuesday at Buckingham Palace. The black-tie dinner at Winfield House in Regent's Park, the official home of the US Ambassador to Britain, Louis Susman, was a more intimate affair than Tuesday's white-tie banquet. The Queen and the Duke were welcomed by the Obamas at the mansion's doorstep, when they arrived in their chauffeur-driven state limousine. The two couples greeted each other warmly, shaking hands and exchanging smiles and a few words before posing for the waiting US and UK media. The Queen wore an Angela Kelly white evening dress with gold and silver sequins and an emerald necklace and matching earrings. Mrs Obama was dressed in a black off-the-shoulder dress that had a tight bodice, and wore what appeared to be a diamond necklace and matching bracelet. The two heads of state led the way through the residence's entrance, which was flanked by two US marines. Amongst the guests, who numbered more than 50, were British Prime Minister David Cameron and wife Sam, Hollywood actor Tom Hanks, Oscar winner Colin Firth, England footballer David Beckham and Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
