Los Wembler's de Iquitos is an Amazonian cumbia band formed in 1968 in Iquitos by guitarist Salomón Sánchez Saavedra, and is made up of his five children. With an extensive musical presence. Los Wembler's are the pioneers of Amazonian cumbia in the culture of Iquitos and are also known internationally. Their best-known songs are " La danza del petrolero ", "Un silbido amoroso", " Sonido amazónico ", "Amenaza verde", " Ikaro del amor " and "Del Itaya a Italia". History Los Wembler's de Iquitos was founded in 1964, and consisted of six members, Salomón Sánchez Saavedra, and his five sons: Isaías, Jair, Alberto, Jairo and Misael. In 1971, they recorded an LP called Cumbia Amazónica , and started the new musical genre called cumbia amazónica , a subgenre of Peruvian cumbia , in turn a derivative of cumbia . In 1968, in Iquitos , Salomón Sánchez Saavedra decided to form a band that would play an electronic version of the popular music of the Amazon at that time: gang, carimbó and, of course, cumbia. Which was the main factor for the success of his musical career. Solomon recruited his five sons and named the band "Los Wembler's." In the middle of the Amazon, they used Anglo-Saxon electronic instruments and an exotic name: Los Wembler's. The Wembler's started the same year as Los Destellos and Juaneco y su Combo , two other pioneers of Peruvian cumbia who laid the foundations for what would become known as chicha. Their songs were dedicated to all social strata , unlike other musical groups that created songs exclusively for the upper and middle classes. The working class was the main consumer audience for their music. At the height of their artistic career, the Wemblers performed in Latin American countries such as Bolivia , Chile , Ecuador and Colombia . On the other hand, Iquitos has been the largest isolated city in the world. Its population is 500,000 and it's only accessible by boat or airplane. Despite its geographic isolation, Iquitos has always been open to the outside world, for better or worse. This city has been the scene of some invasions, among the most notable: the rubber boom of the early twentieth century and the oil boom of the 1960s.
