Today, I took a deep dive into the vibrant city of Bandung, often dubbed the 'Paris of Indonesia' for its mix of colonial history and modern culture. Starting at Bandung City Hall, I wandered through Taman Balai Kota, where the locals relax under shady trees, before heading down the famous Braga Street. This street is a blend of old colonial architecture and modern street art, where you can almost feel the city's past and present colliding. After taking in the charms of Braga, I made my way to the Cikapundung River, a revitalised spot where locals escape the city buzz. Then it was off to the Museum of the Asia-Africa Conference. Though I didn't go inside, I soaked up the history from outside, imagining the momentous 1955 conference where world leaders from Asia and Africa came together. Across the road, the iconic Savoy Homann Hotel stood as a reminder of Bandung's colonial elegance. I wrapped up my tour of the city at Tegallega Park, home to the impressive Bandung Lautan Api Monument, marking the city's defiant stance in Indonesia's fight for independence. It's been a day of contrasts - old and new, history and modern life - and unfortunately I have to go without seeing any more of this amazing city #Java #Indonesia #Citytour I am an older backpacker travelling the world proving that backpacking is not just for the younger generation.
