First spores are added to sterilized spawn bags. After 10-14 days the bags are colonized and ready to be added to the substrate. Next, the spawn is added to the sterilized substrate, mixed well, and allowed to colonize for an additional 10-14 days. Finally, the colonized block is removed from the bag and placed onto a piece of aluminum foil inside a tub filled with a layer of hydrated perlite. Light and fresh air exchanged are now introduced to initiate pinning. 8-12 hours of light per day, with 3-4 fresh air exchanges by fanning out the tub to circulate new air in. A light misting is recommended 2-3 times a day, to keep the tub wet and prevent the block from drying out.
