Seattle Stories - Jasmine, working on the streets of Seattle

Jasmine was born in Bellevue Washington and raised on Whidbey Island with her mother and sister. Growing up she had a creative outlet with her cousins by making an ongoing movie over several years with an old video camera. After Jasmine graduated high school she ventured up to Alaska for a time and when she came back, she started working in elder care. Jasmine admittedly was a “big drinker” in her teens and in her 20’s. Eventually her mother asked her to leave and this was when she became unhoused for the first time after staying with friends. After she lost her car she was sleeping in, she tried to start fresh in Las Vegas. This only lasted a short while and she moved back to Whidbey Island working again in elder care while living with her friends parents. For a year she was clean, yet started coping with illegal drugs once again. Yet Jasmine was tired and reached out to her father, who she was estranged from for years, and again desired another start. Unfortunately this did not go as planned and he ended up dropping her off at a women’s shelter unexpectedly which crushed all Jasmine’s hopes and dreams of starting over. The next chapter of Jasmine’s life was a tumultuous one living on the streets. At some point a relative reached out hearing that she was unhoused and offered to pay for her to travel to California. There her life took a drastic turn when she was kidnapped and forced to have sex for money. This traumatic event changer her for ever. Miraculously she was rescued by a stranger who pulled her out of this horrendous situation. Jasmine learned that there was much more money in sex work and she now works for herself on the streets of Seattle.
