60 Years Strong | ‘Autumn Steam Gala’ - Severn Valley Railway | 18~21/09/25

Severn Valley’s annual steam gala always promises to provide a great show for enthusiasts, and this year wouldn’t be any different with an intensive timetable which would show off the railway’s strength with the return of all night running. The railway would welcome in four star studded visitors which would run alongside the Valley’s extensive homefleet pool. This gala would also be the first gala back to Bridgenorth after the landslip at Haye Bridge. The headline for this year’s instalment would be Rebuilt Merchant Navy No 35006 ‘Pennisular & Oriental’ making a rather rare outing from her home at the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway. This would also serve as a swansong for myself as this would be the last chance to capture PnO before the expiry of her boiler ticket come the end of the October. PnO’s inclusion at this event would also mark the first ever merchant navy to step foot on Severn Valley metals. Rubbing shoulders with the Merchant would be another southern reigon stalwart: BR Standard 5 No 73082 ‘Camelot’ from the Bluebell Railway back home in Sunny Sussex. This would only mark only the third time Camelot would step foot off Bluebell metals with her last outing being in 2022 to the Great Central Railway. LMS Jinty No 47298 would also visit for the gala and would often be put on display alongside the railway’s own Jinty at Kidderminster. RSH Hunslet Austerity NCB no 49 would complete the lineup and would being reunited with fellow ex Backworth resident Port Talbot Railway Saddle Tank No 813. She’d mark her return back to action this gala after repairs to the original spring casting & saddle tank. 813 would also run temporarily as NCB Backworth Colliery No 11 for this gala. Fellow other residents would compliment the visiting lineup with GWR Hall No 4930 ‘Hagley Hall’ & LMS Stanier Mogul 13268 would also feature however in this video, especially the Mogul, would feature rather sparsely in this video as they took the brunt of the overnight services. The Great Western trio of 7714, 1450 & 7802 would took the brunt of some services across the four day bender.
