Family-owned and operated, Best Plumbing has been serving the Seattle-Bellevue area for more than 50 years. This video is Part I in a series that shows what a trenchless sewer repair is like for a Seattle homeowner. Transcript Hi, good morning. So, today what we're doing is sewer repair for our customer. We're going to start off in the back of the property by digging up down to the broken section of sewer with the machine. You can see Brian in the back getting ready to do that. We've called in utility locate so far to come out and make sure everything's marked out as far as the gas and the water. This is the original side sewer same age as the house. So, it just failed due to natural erosion. This is a very common spot repair up against the foundation. The soil pipe connects the first piece to the side sewer, but I don't know as it attributes to the weather this was just, this sewer was at the end of its shelf life. And it caused a pretty mean backup for our customer. So, we performed a camera scope from inside our homeowner's house. There was a clean out and found out when they had a sewer backup it was due to a broken piece of side sewer outside. So, when we had the camera in the line, we located out where it is, and that's the part that we have to dig down and fix. So, from there we're actually going to use a trench-less method known as lining to do some install liner to replace the rest of the side sewer. So, instead of digging with the backhoe the entire line up, we're gonna shoot the liner underground and trenchlessly replace it. So the side sewer is going to be replaced by just digging that one whole in the back right there. Before when we didn't have liner, we didn't use liner the only way you could do it was to dig the whole new trench out. And it doesn't always work that way but the sider sewer is straight enough, and there's no other variables in our way, so we are able to do that without destroying our customer's landscape in the back or the staircase or even breaking up the city sidewalk. So, my customer's main concern was, which is a typical question, "how long will I be without my plumbing?" So, in this application, most of the work we're doing today is going to be digging the hole. We're going to leave it intact. Get down to the broken section and fix that and then install a liner tomorrow first thing. So, with the whole process of a three-day job our customer is going to be able to stay in service and use their facilities without any interruption. Probably Friday before we're complete so about a two or three-day project. When we dig it up, we have the permit already in place, we've called in our locates, we'll install the liner, and then SPU will come out and inspect the sewer line. Once the inspections are done, we put all the dirt back, and we're all the way completed with the project. This is the four-inch concrete. Here's the six inch. So, what we're going to do now is cut this thing out right here and right here and do a pipe burst and pull four inch from that trench down to here, and then from here, we're going to install a six-inch liner down to the main. Tomorrow there's going to be a liner that we install that'll take about two to three hours to cure. So, in the middle of the day when she's at work, we'll be installing a liner, so when she gets home, she's going to turn the washing machine on or use the restroom or take a shower when she gets home from work with no problems. No interruption in service.
