𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶, 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 (𝗗𝗢𝗖) The chick hatched on the 22nd of January 2026 and is now 15 days old (6 Feb) The oldest chicks, including Plateau chick, have had a tiny blood sample taken this is to determine the sex of each chick. The overlap in sizes between large females and small males make it difficult to determine and because any supplementary feeding needs to take the chicks sex into consideration the blood sample is the best way to be certain of this. We will let you all know what sex the Plateau chick is once the results are back from the lab. This may take a few weeks as the younger chicks have yet to be sampled. WYL had been on the nest 5 days with BOK returning to changeover this morning. GPS tracking of BOK (left) and WYL (right) over the last 30 days show BOK has been taking shorter foraging trips closer to home than WYL. As the chick gets bigger longer trips will need to be taken as the parents need to provide enough food for a growing chick and themselves.
