Meet Dr. Okan Doğan of Guidance College

Meet Dr. Okan Doğan, one of the distinguished faculty members at Guidance College. Dr. Doğan began his academic journey in Turkey, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Studies and studying classical Islamic texts under eminent scholars. He later earned a Master’s in Islamic Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s in Christian Theology from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and a PhD in Islamic Studies with distinction from Hartford International University. At Guidance College, Dr. Doğan teaches Qur’anic Sciences, Tafsir, and Qur’an Recitation. His courses give students: 📖 A comprehensive introduction to Qur’anic studies—history of the Qur’an, tafsir methods, usul of different qirā’āt. 🎓 Direct engagement with classical & contemporary tafsirs, exploring both traditional and western scholarship. 🕋 Practical training in Qur’an recitation & tajweed, specifically in the recitation style of Ravi Hafiz bin Suleiman (Ishaa Tibiya), with flexibility to practice other qirā’āt. Dr. Doğan has also taught Qur’an recitation at Hartford International University, training a diverse body of students including imams and Muslim chaplains. His research spans Qur’anic sciences, Islamic law, and Muslim–Christian relations, and he serves as a peer reviewer for the Muslim World Journal.
