Beshalach is not just a story about water splitting. It’s a blueprint for faith, sacrifice, and redemption. 🌊🔥 This Torah portion quietly weaves together three threads that point straight to the Messiah: • Who stepped first into the impossible • Why Israel crossed when Egypt fell • How faith in God is inseparable from faith in His chosen servant Let’s start at the sea. Jewish tradition preserves a detail the Torah only hints at: When Israel stood trapped between Pharaoh and the waters, no tribe moved. Until one man did. Nahshon ben Amminadab, prince of the tribe of Yehudah, walked straight into the sea before it split. Not after a miracle. Before it. The Talmud describes him sinking, struggling, crying out as the waters reached his soul—while Moshe was still praying. And Heaven responded not to the prayer, but to the action. “Tell the children of Israel to go forward.” Because one man trusted God enough to risk his life, the sea fled. Because of that faith, Yehudah was granted kingship. Because of that step, Israel learned how redemption works. Faith is not passive. Faith moves first. The rabbis compare Nahshon to those who walked into the fiery furnace—martyrs who glorified God not with words, but with surrender. And from that moment, Israel proclaimed: “The LORD shall reign forever and ever.” Now ask the harder question. Why did Israel deserve to cross at all? They weren’t righteous. They had worshiped idols in Egypt. They were no better than the Egyptians who drowned. Midrash gives a shocking answer. When Satan accused Israel before Heaven, God diverted the accusation—by delivering Job into suffering. Job’s anguish became a shield. His suffering bought Israel time. Job suffered so Israel could pass through judgment. And that pattern should sound familiar. Just as Job suffered on behalf of Israel, Yeshua suffers on behalf of humanity. Just as Nahshon stepped forward to open the way, Yeshua laid down His life to make a way where none existed. Prince of Yehudah. Voluntary sacrifice. Redemption through trust. Then comes the most important verse: “And Israel saw the great work which the LORD did… and they feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD, and in His servant Moshe.” Three pillars of true faith: • Fear of God — knowing He judges rightly • Belief in God — trusting His power to save • Belief in His servant — accepting how God reveals Himself Belief in God alone is not enough. To believe in Moshe is to believe in the Torah Moshe brought. Not a vague higher power. Not spirituality without obedience. But the God who speaks, commands, redeems, and reveals truth. This is why the ancient sages said: “One who believes in Moshe believes in God.” And Yeshua echoes this exactly: “You believe in God—believe also in Me.” Moshe saved Israel from Pharaoh, Egypt, and the sea. Yeshua saves us from sin, Satan, and death. Nahshon teaches us how to step forward. Job teaches us the cost of atonement. Moshe teaches us how God reveals Himself. Yeshua fulfills them all. Faith is not just belief. Faith is loyalty. Faith is obedience. Faith is endurance. And in the end, Scripture tells us exactly who the redeemed are: “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yeshua.” — Revelation 14:12 Learn more, study deeper, and walk this path with us: 👉 https://www.beneiavraham.com 🕍✡️🕎🍷🔯🍞🕍✡️🕎🍷🔯🍞 Benei Avraham is a Traditional Jewish Congregation, Inspired by Mashiach.
