In this video coach John Shepherd (http://www.johnshepherdfitness.com/blog) takes you with him on a training session that he did with a young athlete. In it he talks about the type of conditioning exercises that can be done by young athletes starting a specific conditioning programme. Exercises are selected in terms of their contribution to balance, stability, core development and plyometric, eccentric and isometric development. Little equipment is required and the workout will take about 20 minutes. Doing weights at a young age is unlikely yo boost performance - you'll get a greater return from doing the types of exercises showcased in the video and by working on speed and technique. Probably the biggest benefit of a S&C routine for the young athlete is to be found in terms of reducing injury potential.
