Former Calexico Chief of Police Gonzalo "Chalo" Gerardo has over thirty years of combined law enforcement experience. Chalo worked and coordinated numerous high-level narcotic, gang, and law enforcement corruption cases. His expertise was in developing community support and relationships by building bridges between the community and law enforcement agencies. He also developed expertise in working with Mexican and U.S. Law enforcement as a liaison. He investigated and solved numerous bi-national cases. Chalo is not only an honorary retired chief of police, but a man respected by many men and women who served under his leadership. Former Detective Benny Cruz worked for forty-two years in law enforcement. He started his career with the Imperial County Sheriff's Office and then lateraled to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. He started his career as a deputy assigned to the Imperial and San Diego county jails, where he developed his expertise on street and prison gangs. Benny worked patrol in the high-crime areas, where he developed his expertise with Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, KKK, NLRs, and Skinheads. After his patrol days, he was promoted to Detective, where he investigated numerous high-profile cases, bi-national kidnappings, bank robberies, and other violent crimes. His expertise is in investigations. Former Detective Sergeant David Contreras has thirty-two years of combined law enforcement experience. He began his law enforcement career with the California Department of Corrections, specializing in street and prison gangs. David transferred to the San Diego Police Department in 1988. During his tenure with SDPD, David worked patrol in Logan Heights for five years, in community relations, gangs, narcotics, and internal affairs, as Special Assistant to two Chiefs of Police and Criminal Intelligence assigned to Mexico. David's expertise is in prison gangs, street gangs, narcotics, community relations and policing, and Mexico's past and present criminal and political trends.
