SOUNDBITE (English) Christian Cowan, fashion/costume designer "I definitely consider myself a designer who's a product of like the social media kind of generation. I wouldn't have a career without it. I saw it as this amazing digital portfolio you could create. So when I was at university, I started making kind of crazy outfits and I would do photo shoots with my friends and by some - I tracked it down - but by some miracle Lady Gaga saw it. And I was like 18 years old and she requested, I got an email from Lady Gaga's team, and I was like, 'what is happening?' And I sent the clothes and she wore some of them and it was a huge moment for me. And so then that allowed me to start getting more celebrity commissions while I was in university. And then the second I graduated, I was like, 'I need to move to New York because that's where my career's gonna happen.' And I moved to New York with some money I'd made from those commissions, and then I continued my work, and then Anna Wintour saw my work and Steven Kolb from the CFDA, and they put me in the Vogue Fashion Fund, and that's kind of what started everything."
