Introducing our second-place honoree in the 2025 World Technology Partners Public Health Challenge: Munemo Chiratidzo from Zimbabwe! 🇿🇼 She is a PhD candidate at the Women's University in Africa. She is working on an integrated personalized nutrition support bundle, a key step toward precision oncology. Her work addresses nutritional deficits in pediatric cancer patients in Zimbabwe. Her study aims to answer critical questions, including: Can a personalized nutrition support bundle improve the nutritional status and health outcomes in this population? What are the optimal nutrient delivery strategies to minimize interactions and toxicity during cancer treatment? Munemo Chiratidzo is employing a mixed-methods approach using a pragmatism lens. This involves collecting qualitative data, such as family experiences regarding cancer and malnutrition, and quantitative data, including biometric data. The biometric data she is interested in includes protein serum levels and genetic profiling for the gut microbiome. The target population for her study is children aged 6 months to 12 years. The significance of her work is to: Improve health outcomes and quality of life for pediatric cancer patients. Contribute to the development of an evidence-based personalized nutrition support.
