Every year, half a million children go permanently blind - not from a disease we haven't cured, but from one we solved decades ago, says Dr. Radhika Batra, a pediatrician and co-founder of Every Infant Matters, who has spent six years making sure the solution reaches the children it never did. In this talk, she traces why the answer keeps failing to arrive - and how her organisation has already reached more than 750,000 children across India, Nigeria, and the Philippines. The blindness she is fighting is not only in children's eyes. Dr. Radhika Batra is the co-founder of Every Infant Matters, a non-profit delivering last-mile healthcare to disadvantaged children in India and Nigeria. Within two years of founding, the organization prevented possible blindness in over 23,000 children through targeted Vitamin A supplementation — addressing a crisis that blinds nearly 500,000 children globally each year, half of whom do not survive the year. Her work also reached 3,000 mothers with nutritional support, tackling the generational cycle that begins with maternal malnutrition. Through community-based care, Every Infant Matters combines medical intervention with education on breastfeeding, hygiene, and early nutrition — proving that the most catastrophic public health failures are also the most solvable. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
