Pocketeers (2021) – for prepared trumpet – live performance | Marcos Franciosi

Pocketeers is a work for prepared trumpet written for trumpeter Valentín Garvie. The piece explores the denaturalization of the trumpet’s sound through a prepared mouthpiece and physical alterations of the instrument, including the removal of valve slides to expose air-flow phenomena and unstable timbral behaviors. The trumpet is treated as an acoustic system capable of producing non-conventional sounds that blur the boundary between instrumental and electronic sonorities. Nevertheless, the work remains intrinsically trumpet-based, relying on the physical gesture, resistance, and breath of the performer. Compositional processes are informed by the idea of resynthesis, translated into rhythmic and timbral writing under stochastic constraints, inspired by analog electronic techniques such as sample & hold and low-frequency modulation (LFO).
