Remembering National Hero General Vitalis Zvinavashe | Legacy of Zimbabwe’st ZDF Commanders Lives On

Zimbabweans gathered at Tynwald Primary School to commemorate the enduring legacy of Vitalis Zvinavashe, the first Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and a key figure in the country’s liberation struggle. Seventeen years after his passing, family members, community leaders, students and well-wishers came together to remember the life and contributions of the late national hero, who played a critical role in the integration and development of Zimbabwe’s military after independence. The event featured cultural performances including a marimba presentation by pupils and music from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches young brass band, reflecting both remembrance and celebration of a legacy that continues to inspire generations. His legacy continues to shape the nation’s memory of sacrifice, leadership and patriotism.
