Canadian Fiddlers’ Advent Calendar 2018 Welcome to day 2! Originally this was supposed to be an Advent Calendar from Dec. 1 - 24, but due to the overwhelming response, it will cover the entire month of December. December 2 – Ward MacDonald – Charlottetown, PEI – “December 2” I have been a fan of Ward MacDonald’s for some time now. Gerry Cheverie, a transplanted PEI’er was living in Ottawa when I was there, and he’d bring me several tunes from PEI that he wanted to learn. And he ALWAYS mentioned the name Ward MacDonald. Since social media made the world a much smaller place, whenever I see a video from Ward in my Facebook newsfeed I am sure to take a moment to watch because I know it’s going to be great. Ward MacDonald is a time-travelling traditionalist with a compass for creative things. His fiddling is best described as storytelling by the bow. Ward is a performer and composer whose tunes represent the memorable moments and the driving forces of a lifetime in traditional music. Born and raised in Prince Edward Island, he has spent over 20 years travelling and performing around the world gathering communities with stories, tunes and dance. He is the originator of PEI's Festival of Small Halls and HERE WE GO Barndances and in 2018, he released his first recording, Ask Her To Dance. To order, you can find him on Facebook. This is a tune that Ward composed for his father for his birthday, called “December 2.”
