When vestibular migraine (or any mind-body condition) hits, it can feel like your whole identity disappears overnight. You start thinking: “This wasn’t me a month ago.” “Will I ever get back to who I was?” “What does my future look like now?” And that grief… it keeps the fear loop going. But here’s the shift. Instead of grieving what you used to do, use it. Use those old situations — coffee shops, weekends out, school runs, social plans as opportunities to practise safety. Not to force yourself. Not to prove anything. But to calmly show your brain: “I know you’re trying to protect me… but I’m safe.” Feel the sensations. Don’t judge them. Don’t run from them. Let them walk in with you. And when your symptoms reduce even slightly — that’s your evidence. That’s your nervous system calming. That’s you creating safety. Bit by bit, the grief softens.
