The instrument has a significant spiritual importance in the culture of Alevi community. How the instruments helps her, and the other children echoing her thoughts, dto develop a strong sense of belonging to the culture is explored throughout sensual and formal qualities ‘Saz’ brings into her life and that of others from different generations. Discourse ‘Saz’ has a spiritual element that functions to unify the generations, genders, time zones of past present and future, powers between the creator and the created. Like a magic wand passing on traditions and connecting generations, ‘Saz’ helps children to relate with their past, and reassures grandparents that their values, hopes and voices are carried to the future through the art of music.
