High Rigg, Great Crag & Grange Fell (at 61) - Kit Failure in Horrendous Weather | Hiking Wainwrights

Today I’m on High Rigg, Raven Crag, Great Crag and Grange Fell (Brund Fell) in horrendous weather at 61 years old, trying to get them done. In episode 33 of Hiking After 60, I head back into the Lake District in horrendous weather. My waterproofs are pushed past their limit, the wind is brutal, and the camera barely stays dry long enough to show what it’s really like on days most people would stay at home. This is the reality of ticking off Wainwrights in grim conditions at 61: kit that doesn’t always cope, plans that have to change, and the stubborn part of you that still wants to keep going. I started this 214 Wainwright challenge in 2024 and aim to finish before I turn 62 in August 2026. Days like this are all part of it.
