In this video you will be able to practice the THE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF LINEAR MOMENTUM in two questions. Question 1: A block A with a mass of 4 kg, moving at a velocity of 3 m·s-1 to the right, collides with a stationary block B with a mass of 2 kg. After the collision the two blocks stick together as they move on. Calculate the velocity of the two blocks immediately after the collision. Ignore the effect of friction. (See picture in the video). Question 2: Every day accidents take place in the roads of our country. Modern cars have a crumple zone, seat belts and airbags to reduce the risk of death or injure. In one of these collisions a car of mass 2000 kg travelling at 28 m.s-1 to the left, collides head on with a minibus of mass 3500 kg travelling at 18 m.s-1 to the right. After the collision both vehicles move together as a unit in a straight line. Ignore the effect of friction. 2.1 Calculate the velocity of the system formed by a car and a minibus. 2.2 Use principles of Physics to explain how air bags can reduce the risk of injury or death.
