This epic prose-poem depicts a hellscape of 1849 Old West scalp-hunters, Apaches, Carnival figures, dark dancers, and the Demiurge incarnate. Utter evil and the abyssal void of the wilderness, war, and depravity rule this zone. We'll discuss the implications of such a worldview, as well as the Shakespearean, Miltonian, and Homeric elements that guide the text. Ultimately, this is Cormac McCarthy's own vision.
