It sits on the Chrudimka River in the Iron Mountains, roughly 30 km south of Pardubice. First mentioned in 1349, Hlinsko originated in the 12th century as a guard settlement on the Bohemia-to-Moravia trade route. Pottery, wire-making and weaving shaped its craft tradition, and today the town is the natural centre of the Hlinecko region. 🗺️ Highlights Betlém folk-architecture reserve – a cluster of 18th–19th century timbered cottages, protected as a village monument and forming part of the Vysočina Open-Air Museum. Hlinecko Shrovetide masks – a UNESCO-listed carnival tradition, showcased in a permanent exhibit in Betlém. Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary – originally Gothic, rebuilt in the Baroque style (1730–1745) with a 1628 baptismal font. Town Hall & Ježdík’s House – landmarks on Poděbrad Square; the latter features 1904 sgraffito decorations. Veselý Kopec Open-Air Museum (4 km) – extensive collection of vernacular buildings and rural technology from the Vysočina highlands. 🚐 Worth a stop nearby Chrudim – medieval town known for its Puppet Museum (~ 21 km). Seč Reservoir – popular lake and viewpoints in the Iron Mountains PLA (~ 25 km).
