Welcome to Yescapa's Road Tips, our series of tutorials on life in a motorhome, campervan or converted van. Check out all our tips to make sure you have everything you need for your road trip! This video helps you understand how a motorhome fridge works and how to operate it. Whether you're using gas, 220 volts or 12 volts while driving, find out everything there is to know! How a motorhome or camper fridge works: To get started, it’s important to know that a motorhome fridge generally runs on several power sources: gas or electricity (12 volts and 220 volts). It runs on gas when the vehicle is stationary and not connected to a power source. In this case, make sure your gas bottle is open. When your vehicle is connected to a 220V power supply via a hook up point, it will use electricity to run. When you’re on the move, your motorhome fridge will operate using the power from the 12V battery. Most camper fridges have an automatic mode, which selects the best power source according to the situation, without requiring any action on your part. But if your vehicle is more than 20 years old, you’ll most likely have to change the power source of the camper fridge manually.
