When we arrived at Badlands National Park, it was 70°F (21°C), but overnight, the temps dropped to the 20s (-6°C) with snow and heavy winds! Wall Drug's famous tradition of free ice water and 5¢ coffee has been around since the 1930s! The prairie dogs in Badlands NP (which we didn’t see because they were hibernating) carry the bubonic plague—yep, you read that right! ⚠️🐾 The town of Wall was named after the "Wall" of the Badlands, an obstacle early travelers had to overcome. 🛶 Badlands National Park Scenic Drive: The Badlands Loop Road is about 39 miles (63 km) long and offers stunning views of the rugged landscape. Since it was winter, we nearly had the park all to ourselves! 📌 Travel Tips: ✅ If you're visiting Wall Drug, get there early to beat the crowds and DON’T skip the famous donut! 🍩 ✅ Boondocking in Buffalo Gap National Grasslands (GPS: 43.88970, -102.22671) offers free camping with unreal views! 🏕️🌅 ✅ Take the dirt road to Roberts Prairie Dog Town for beautiful views, bison sightings, and prairie dogs (if they’re not hibernating!). 💡 Fun Fact: The rock formations in Badlands NP are constantly changing—eroding at about 1 inch per year!
